Augsburg, one of the oldest cities in Germany, is a location of the W.A.Mozart Academy. A Roman army camp, 2000 years ago was the starting point of a rich history: As Roman provincial capital in ancient times, imperial city in the Middle Ages, economic centre of the beginning modern times and focal point of the Reformation, Augsburg developed into a place of music and culture.
Leopold Mozart, the father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was born here in 1719 in what is now the Leopold Mozart House, meanwhile a museum. The premises of the W. A. Mozart Academy in Augsburg are located in the vivid centre of the old town, near the Leopold Mozart House.
Now in the 21st century, the German Mozart city of Augsburg is still a place of nationally significant musical institutions in many areas of musical practice, pedagogy and research, where the history of music has a lively home.
